Marha Bar Turkish
Marha Bar is one of many Turkish Restaurants in Milton Keynes. Opened on the 15th of December 2021, this premises is owned by the same management as Olive Tree in Midsummer Boulevard. We’ve seen a lot of independent restaurants coming up lately and a lot of of them have been the same cuisine. I recently wrote about the Sumac Room which also opened at the end of last year.
You can never go wrong with Turkish food – It’s healthy, high in protein, full of flavour and great for sharing. Perhaps that explains the increasing popularity of the this cuisine in the independent food industry. So with so many restaurants serving the same cuisine, how do you choose where to go??
Marha Bar is a flamboyant two level property with an insta-worthy decor featuring a flower wall, large pillars and a beautiful bar with gorgeous chandeliers that creates a focal point. The premises can hold upto 250 people and serves daily from 12:00pm-10:00pm. What makes this place unique is that it converts to a night club with a live DJ over the weekends after 11:00 pm and is open till 3:00 am – How cool is that? Situated in the Theatre District allows for late hours and a bit of bar hopping too!
We were invited to dine at the restaurant late December and we were thrilled to see what they had on offer.
STARTERS & DRINKS:
We ordered a cold Mezze selection between the two of us which included, Hummus, Cacik, Saksuka & Creamed Artichokes. Unlike other places, this came in individual bowls with some fresh pita bread and lots of garnish! We love these as dips and condiments with the meats that follow, so it was a great start. We also ordered a Pornstar Martini and an Espresso Martini which were made to perfection !! We finished the drinks pretty quickly because they were so good.. So we also ordered a Pina colada to try and were not disappointed. With a start like this we were very excited to see what lies ahead. The cold mezze was £12.95 and the drinks varied from £8-£10.
For the mains I wanted to try something different from my staple mixed grills so I went for the Prawn Guvec. This is peppers, onions, fresh tomato and garlic cooked in a creamy rich tomato sauce. Served with sautéed new potatoes this dish was priced at £16.95. It comes in a sizzling clay dish and is a very satiating, tasteful and healthy dish that I will order again and again. It didn’t come with any rice or bread, but I didn’t miss it – The portion size was great and in fact I got the leftover packed because I also wanted to try the desserts.
My partner ordered Lamb chops which is served with roast vegetables and rice and was priced at £18.95. Perfectly cooked and spiced, this dish was also great for one. We particularly enjoyed the spicy sauce that comes with the meats, it adds so much more flavour and we just loved it! We were both stuffed and very happy with the meal but I’m a sucker for desserts …
Between drinks, starters and the mains we both were exploding. Turkish food portions are not for the faint of heart. But I definitely didn’t want to leave without trying the dessert so we ordered one Baklava ice cream sundae to share which included frozen yoghurt, rose scented whipped cream topped with pomegranate and shaved dark chocolate. Let me tell you it was DIVINE! the combination of sweet, creamy, crunchy was so so good!! Priced at £6.95 it’s not particularly low on price but can be shared by two to savour the flavours!
We really enjoyed the meal, ambience, service and the cocktails. So much so that we came back for New Years with 6 other families to wine and dine! Because we had little kids with us, we didn’t stay over 11:00 pm but in the time we were there, we really enjoyed and the quality of food remained consistent to the first time we visited. There were delays in serving cocktails but that can be overlooked on a busy day like New Years’ eve.
FINAL VERDICT Love the ambience and flowered ceiling feature. The cocktails rock and the food is is has been consistent consistent. Price point is a bit high, but the experience makes up for it.
